Thermostat Housing Gasket 1-890-631 EPS

Maintain reliable engine cooling and prevent coolant leaks with the genuine thermostat housing gasket (part 1-890-631 EPS). This precision-molded rubber seal fits between the thermostat housing and engine block on BMW 3 Series 1.6-litre models from 2000 onward, ensuring a leak-free seal and correct coolant flow for optimal temperature regulation.

Key Benefits

  • Exact OEM Fit
Engineered to BMW’s original dimensions and material specifications for a perfect, no-modification replacement.

  • High-Temperature Rubber
EPDM compound resists heat, antifreeze chemicals and repeated thermal cycling without hardening or cracking.

  • Leak-Free Seal
Precision profile ensures uniform compression around the thermostat housing, preventing coolant seepage and engine overheating.

  • Engine Temperature Control
Seals coolant flow precisely through the thermostat, maintaining correct operating temperature and protecting components.

  • Direct Replacement
Drops into the OEM groove; ideal for thermostat service, housing replacement or repair of coolant leaks.

Vehicle Compatibility

Fits BMW 3 Series models equipped with 1.6 L petrol engines and the corresponding thermostat housing setup, including:

  • E46 316i/318i (2000 – 2006)

  • E90 316i/318i (2005 – 2011)

  • E91/E92/E93 316i/318i (2005 – 2013)

Always verify part number against your VIN or existing gasket prior to installation.

Installation Overview

  1. Drain Coolant: Allow the engine to cool, then drain the coolant below the thermostat housing level.

  2. Remove Housing: Unbolt and lift off the thermostat housing to expose the old gasket.

  3. Clean Surfaces: Scrape away all remnants of the old gasket and clean mating surfaces of oil and debris.

  4. Fit New Gasket: Place the new gasket into the housing groove, ensuring full seating around the perimeter.

  5. Reassemble: Reinstall the thermostat housing, torque bolts to BMW specification (consult service manual).

  6. Refill & Test: Refill the cooling system with proper coolant mixture, bleed air, then run the engine to check for leaks and correct temperature control.
